i must say that it hasnt exactly been a great week.. mayb even a rather stormy one for me. last friday to this friday really felt very long.
i must apologize to my kakis nearest to me py kx yw... for putting up w me n the storm cloud that came with me.. i tink they've been pretty disturbed by my black face. it's real sweet of the girls to buy me ben n jerry's to cheer me up.

oh well.. it has all died down abit but honestly i felt tt i needed a change, like in general outlook and attitude towards life. i hope it's for the better, we shall see.

hope it'll be a great wkend. cant wait to meet yy n gang :)

just to round up orthopaedics.. haa i finally submitted my writeups tonight.. been writing while taking a break so have not been very productive.
I must say orthopaedics had been very fun, i really enjoyed it. everything's fun except for the fact that i cant do lachman's properly.. maybe due to poor technique or small hands, but it always cause me to break out into sweat.. haaa

i think the tutors had been pretty good, met quite a few excellent ones i must say. so it's been a fruitful posting, which made alot of sense. and got to meet inspirational tutors who fix the ankle joint where the knee joint supposed to be to allow better function after amputation, a ortho surgeon who open up the abdomen cause no one else would do it.

very funny tutors that allowed me to laugh alot.. talking about anal winks and testees.. well it's been a good posting.

n prof told us the story of his classmate called ah-huay (a guy)
cause the guy was born into a rich family and his dad asked their servant to bring the boy to the registry of birth soon after he was born
the officer at the registry was v stern and asked loudly

the servant was so stunned she replied "AH HUAY!" (her own name)
so tt was how the poor guy got him name haaaaaaa but he got it changed in the end.

but glad it's all over... so now one last hurdle of end-of-posting test

went to the cerebral palsy centre today. it was really an eyeopener (glad i didnt have ptosis - rolling my eyes at barry).

once again it brings back all those feelings i've got during paeds days. the poor kids, but they r still so cute and lovely. i feel v fortunate for them that s'pore has such an organization with v impressive facilites for them to try to catch up w them developmental delay and honestly i was v touched by many things i heard from the teachers and therapists. was v impressed and inspired by the doctors too, those we come to care for the kids in their free time voluntarily. i guess this is one aspect of being a good doctor, to have a big heart.

i'm starting to feel butterflies in my stomach right now, thinking of OSCE tmr. hope everything goes well. usu the day before such a hugh test ll make me feel v v stressed but i shall try to do some deep breathing and not b too anxious haa. it's part n parcel of getting there, to the end of a beginning, of becoming a doc tt can truly help people.

but the joke of the day shud b from our prof
haa he was telling us tt he'll b a tester on wk 8, testing 2 of our classmates.
n he called them testees.
muahahahahaha

he still candidly added in tt we have poor pronunciation, n "jiao-bian" tt he said test-eeee-s not testes.

yest was a very long day at ttsh from 7am-1am.
my highlights of the day included meet the lengendary prof Lau. the father of surgery.. haa he has never taught me before but the first time he met us today.. he just walked right up to us and asked each of us "are you alright?" haaa he's famous line. his such a kind man haa n he left me w he famous line.. tell us to go overseas for electives to see "the corals in the sea and the flowers in the desert". i wished i've been taught by him. he's really cool :)
then there was tutorials which were fun.. knee examination on all the 4 guys in my cg.. everyone kinda more or less had a +ve lachman's haaa
but my tian, doing a lachman cause me to break out in sweat can.
then there was TTSH staff day w 50% off everything.. we went by to queue at 5plus n stayed there till night call started. night call was abit boring at first but as the night went by it got more n more interesting saw my first pt w gout attack, and a poor m'sian guy my age w a pretty bad rta.. w his tendoarchilles staring at us in our face n a hugh deformed thigh. hope he's well
then there was supper w kx yw py me n my dad at newton shopping centre till we headed home.. i was really gonna doze off as i drive but managed to reach home safely by 2+ haa
so slept the most of my day until now. got test next wk!! stress..

i've not been there since cny? haa it's been abt half a year.. to think i used to go there so frequently in jc last time. it's gotten bigger and i went by to check out the new library as well.. :)

visited my hairdresser.. for the 2nd time.
i like my hairdresser :) n it's v amusing that he looks like a pai gia but when he speaks he sounds so nice n sincere.. haaa of course that's part of good service but well my therapeutic hair cut went q ok..

i'm starting to miss the weekend as it comes to an end hai :(

took a nice little walk all by myself along the s'pore river.
it was a nice cooling night w a little breeze as took a stroll, trying to take in the beautiful night
as i was abt to enter the underpass, i kinda got stuck as something held me bk
lo n behold, the distal end of my heel got stuck in the metal covering of a tiny drain
to disrupted the little skip in my steps.. sigh i tot such stuff only appears in tv or commercials
had to stoop down to free my heel.. sheepishly look ard for eye-witnesses, relieved that no one saw and hurriedly resume my footsteps as if nothing has happened.
haha

well my feet are kinda sore now cause i've hafnt worn my heels for quite some time and my feet have gotten all complacent and comfy with mininal heel raise they experience daily.
although towards the end of the day, each step brings on this tiny sharp pain in my sole near my metatarsals, i've still gotta strut ard w confidence n conceal the antalgic gait that's trying to surface.
such is my love-hate relationship with my heels.
i kinda missed them, cause they look so pretty but my feet will hurt if i dont continually train them and expose them to such angle of elevation. haha

spent a good day out.. meeting my dear travel mates and had a good sharing session.
then sending some time with apley on a bench in smu.. the air was pretty cool cause it just rained but i met this little green bug which landed on my book. it's of an interesting shape, possibly hexagonal? like nothing i've seen before.. i shook off my book, thinking it will just flop on the floor but to my pleasant surprise it spread out it's wings n flew.. on retrospect.. it must have landed on my book after a flight, caused if it had crawled on, he cant make such a sudden appearance. so it wasnt meant to be a surprise that it could fly i guess. watever (anything)

then me and my kakis met up and we watched half of uban pulse.. this smu dance performance, to support an old friend.
it was pretty interesting, rather visual stimulating, cause usually i watch band or chinese orchestra performances...
i like the opening.. w the big-bicep golden guy playing the ?clarinet standing on top of a metal scaffold, the music was pretty good but i agree with my friend that it would have been nice if the dancers doing the same moves are more in sync with each other. i like the concept of the mirror as well, instantly doubling the number of dancers on stage. there was one item that reminded me of Men In White and kinda tickled me, but it think the eerie effect came through so much better than the movie. there was a bit of humor injected which i appreciate as well. left during the interval as i v much prefer to hang out with my frens than to stay on to a performance that moderately interests me. but i know the effort and hard work that goes in such a production, so hope everything went well for the performers.

hafnt gone out in a weekend like that for about a month already.. need to get some sleep and it's back to ortho. which i dont mind as it seems to be getting more interesting by the day. i'll miss the doctors from NUH as i move on to TTSH next wk. i like the ortho doctors, the hand team exudes elegance and kindness *whiff*, the spine guys feel brainy, the sports guys feels kinda like typical sports pple in sch, the Adult recon guys keep me in awe.. and special mention must go to dr sternface w teddybear cufflinks. kind and helpful hos n mos make it even more pleasant. :)

just got bk from timbre.. hafnt had such a relaxing time in a while.. the band was pretty good today. ngak's singing of eason's song was a pleasant surprise, and funny discussion revolving ?fat/thin E and blindman C w ser was fun...

it's tough when u think the whole world dislikes you..

slept real early last night with a bad and interrupted sleep and feeling kinda zombified right now sitting in NUH's student lounge.. last week at NUH ortho... it's hasnt been too bad, i've learnt q abit and ortho's pretty interesting.. the OT has got lotsa carpentry involved the clinics has got lotsa wheelchairs and crutches but at least it tries to improve the patient's function, which most pple will be grateful for.
not sure wat i wanna write abt, just felt tt it's been a long time since i wrote anything
well i've still got my writeups to finish up... i must cont reading my chew chapters.. hope today's a good day.

in OT today awaiting ACL reconstruction of a 20/C/M, i requested to examine the patient as i was q excited to feel a postive anterior drawer test + Lachman test. I finally got my chance after the patient went under GA but struggled terribly w the mother heavy leg n realize tt wat i visualized from the book w 1 hand on the thigh n the other on the leg, with knee flexed at 30degrees, and shifting the joint surfaces upon each other, is v difficult to do, cause the whole leg was moving as i was struggling to hold up a thigh w just my 2 palms. but i'm glad that the fellow in the ot showed me how he usually does it.

well aft the examination prof H asked me wat i did in jc.. i told him judo n he announced to everyone in the ot. hai... going on abt "new age girls" n "i will never let my daughter do judo" etc..
aft the op he told me that he asked me cause he saw my biceps n "something else" when i was struggling to perform Lachman test..
biceps? i told him i guess the sleeves of my scrubs r too short
me n kx gathered tt "something else" which he say he shant say r prob fats haa

i hope he doesnt recog me cause i never took off my mask in the ot ha..

i was in NUH for 12 whole hrs today 645-645 haa
n for the first time in a long while, i overslept and failed to alight at my mrt stop, when i suddenly woke up, i saw the tampines sign n the door closed right in front of my eyes 1 sec later.
so it's journey to pasir ris n bk to tampines for me. haa
love it when they give me the happymeal box! i've got a toy too
the way my fingers move on the piano never fail to amaze me..
my mama used this ancient vcr tape to record some tv show n i watched abit of the tape to figure out wat show was tapped. it was 神雕侠侣 with 古天乐 (1995 version) n there was a national day mtv at the end... 心连心 by 陈毓云 + 梦飞船 haha which means it was 1999 National day song muahaha.. to listen to NDP songs, check this out.
